2018 Suzuki Ride Day Catch Up

By: Aaryn Minerds

Posted: Tuesday, 12th December, 2017 - -

For 2018 Suzuki Motorcycles Australia embarked on a five state tour across Australia to allow potential customers, Suzuki dirt bike fans and riders in general a chance to ride both the all new 2018 Suzuki RM-Z450 along with the tried and tested RM-Z250

We headed out to the South Australian event held at the Motocross Riders Association track at Gilman to both check out the event ourselves and of course to have another rider on the new RM-Z450 after riding the bike earlier in the year at Park4MX.

Despite a hot day, a big turnout of riders were on hand to cut some laps, along with the South Australian Suzuki dealers who supplied the bikes for the day.

After a great day out, the Suzuki Australia crew headed directly over to Western Australia and the famous Wanneroo track, before making their final stop at Broadford in Victoria.

With the tour done and dusted we tookt he opportunity to catch up again with Suzuki Australia's Marketing Coordinator Matt Reilly for a chat about how the ride days unfolded.

Suzuki Australia's Marketing Coordinator Matt Reilly runs over the features of the all new 2018 RM-Z450 before riders hit the track for the first session in South Australia.

Fullnoise: How well received were the 2018 Suzuki Ride Days around the nation?

Matt Reilly: They were well received for sure, there’s been a lot of hype surrounding the 2018 RM-Z range, especially with the introduction of the all-new RM-Z450. It was great to be able to give the public the opportunity to come along and try them out.

Fullnoise: What was the general feed back you received about the bikes from riders at each of the five events?

Matt Reilly: Extremely positive, we asked riders to complete a short survey at the end of the day assessing different areas of performance such as engine, suspension, brakes, styling and overall comfort providing their rating from 1-5 with the ability to add in any comments/thoughts below.

We’ve always believed that RM-Zs are very well rounded and perform strongly across all areas and it was very satisfying to see customer feedback and survey results reflect that also.

Fullnoise: What were the biggest highlights of the events?

Matt Reilly: For us it was a two-pronged initiative, the first part of the day consisted of performing sales training with our dealers, then we had them go out and sample firsthand what they’d just learnt in the class room out on the track. All in an effort for them to better understand how effective the changes made for MY18 are and be able to talk about and pass that information on to customers enhancing the experience within their dealerships.

The second part of the day is where we had the public arrive for test ride sessions. The biggest highlight would have to be seeing people’s reactions after coming in from their test ride, genuinely impressed, smiling from ear to ear and having a good time, was very satisfying to see.

Fullnoise: Were there any out of the ordinary questions from any riders that caught you by surprise or was a little unexpected.

Matt Reilly: We did have one gentleman question whether we were going broke. Suzuki Motor Corporation as a company has actually never recorded a loss in all its years of business, we can assure customers that we’re not going anywhere and will continue to develop and produce new motorcycles including in the motocross segment.

Fullnoise: Did the event give you a better feel of the general publics thoughts on the Suzuki Motocross range and is there anything from the feed back gained that will assist in future marketing and promotion of the RM-Z range?

Matt Reilly: Absolutely, one of the benefits of conducting these ride day events was it allowed us to travel around the country and speak directly with motocross customers. We also had some questions in our survey with regards to off-road media consumption so we can ensure our communication is best aligned with the market.

Fullnoise: Would you say the event was an overall success and are we likely to see a program like this again from Suzuki in the Future?

Matt Reilly: Yes they were, we view and evaluate these events based on the customer experience as opposed to just sales. You don’t have to be looking at buying a motocross bike right now in order to attend our ride days, we encourage people to come along and have a ride and experience what RM-Zs are all about for themselves.

We are planning on doing another round of RM-Z Ride Days around April next year so keep an eye out for details, we’d love to see these events grow and become a regular thing.

Fullnoise: On a personal note, I know you had the opportunity to ride at each venue, how did you find the tracks and which was your favourite and why?

Matt Reilly: One of the perks of the job was I got to pack my gear and cut a few laps around each track which of course was awesome! The tracks were all very well prepared and each had its own challenges and character.

My favourite would have to be Wanneroo in Western Australia, I really like the sand and to be able to ride a National calibre sand track with undulation, big berms and jumps was pretty epic!
